AhlulBayt News Agency: Secretary of Iran’s Supreme National Security Council of Iran, Ali Larijani, said the United States and Israel are pursuing the fragmentation of Iran, stressing that their main issue is not limited political change but the country itself.
Larijani made the remarks during a televised interview on Saturday night, saying that Washington and Tel Aviv’s objective from the outset of the conflict had been to destabilize and ultimately divide Iran.
“The issue for the United States and Israel was the disintegration of Iran. They were not looking for minor changes; they were seeking the fragmentation of Iran, and their problem is with Iran itself,” he said.
Larijani said that when the attacks began, they were launched with significant intensity, resulting in the assassination of Ali Khamenei, the Leader of the Islamic Revolution, and other senior figures of the Islamic Republic.
He said the attackers may have believed such strikes would create a shock that could lead to the collapse of Iran’s political system and pave the way for dividing the country.
“Even in his message today, Donald Trump referred to such ideas, which shows they have been pursuing the fragmentation of Iran,” Larijani said.
Plans to Destabilize Iran
Larijani said the initial phase of the plan was to disrupt Iran’s administrative and governmental structure, adding that the attackers expected the process to unfold rapidly.
“The second step was to prevent the delivery of food and essential supplies to the population,” he said.
He also noted that some had claimed Iranian commanders had sent messages signaling surrender, questioning such claims by pointing to the continued presence of Iranian forces and missile capabilities.
Larijani said another objective was to incite ethnic tensions inside Iran, including attempts to encourage Kurdish groups to oppose the government.
“The Kurds are an authentic Iranian community. They know what happened to the Kurds in Syria and how they were abandoned,” he said.
“U.S. Trapped in Its Own Miscalculations”
Larijani said the United States is now facing the consequences of its own miscalculations.
“At the height of the crisis, despite a record daily gasoline consumption of 190 million liters, there was no disruption in fuel distribution or the supply of goods,” he said.
According to Larijani, contrary to expectations in Washington, the crisis has strengthened national unity in Iran.
“Today the United States is trapped in the swamp of its own miscalculations and is confronting a nation that has turned this crisis into an opportunity for greater cohesion,” he said.
Larijani added that threats issued by Trump against the Iranian people failed to produce the reaction Washington had expected.
“Trump does not understand that Iranians may have differences among themselves, but they remain united as Iranians, especially when they see foreign interference,” he said.
Criticism of Trump’s Remarks on Iran’s Leadership
Larijani also criticized comments attributed to Trump suggesting he should have a role in determining Iran’s future leadership.
“Trump says he should intervene in choosing Iran’s next leader. This shows he is extremely backward in his thinking,” he said.
He added that despite political disagreements inside the country, Iranians remain united when national sovereignty is threatened.
“People may have grievances or differences of opinion, but when it comes to Iran they stand together,” he said.
Larijani also said American citizens should be aware of the costs incurred as a result of Trump’s policies.
“Trump has wasted U.S. resources. The American people should know the price they are paying because of Trump’s obsession with following what Benjamin Netanyahu says,” he added.
Iran’s Position on Regional Countries
Larijani also addressed regional issues, saying Iran has no intention of attacking Azerbaijan.
“It makes no sense for us to attack Azerbaijan. Azerbaijan has no conflict with us,” he said.
However, he warned that Iran will respond if attacks are carried out against the country from regional bases.
“When the enemy attacks us from bases in the region, we will respond. This is our right and a consistent policy,” he said.
Larijani added that regional countries must prevent the United States from using their territory to launch attacks against Iran.
“Either they stop the United States from using their soil against Iran, or we will take action ourselves,” he said.
National Unity in Confrontation with the U.S. and Israel
Larijani emphasized that there is no division in Iran regarding confrontation with the United States and Israel.
“There is no disagreement at the national level when it comes to confronting the United States and Israel,” he said.
He added that the attackers had assumed that killing the country’s leadership would cause the political system to collapse.
“They thought that by targeting the leadership the government would fall apart, but that did not happen. People continue their lives,” he said.
Larijani also argued that the image of American power in the region has been weakened.
“Countries in the region now understand that the United States is no longer capable of guaranteeing their security,” he said.
“U.S. Reaching the End of Its Strategy”
Larijani said Washington is now struggling because it failed to achieve its objectives.
“Because the United States has not reached its goals, it is now flailing,” he said.
He added that Trump should acknowledge the miscalculation.
“It would be better for Trump to admit he made a mistake and was misled by Israel,” Larijani said.
According to him, the United States has reached the limits of its strategy in the current confrontation.
